Fulham have emerged as favourites to sign Everton striker Andy Johnson, whose departure from Goodison Park will enable manager David Moyes to launch a formal bid for Tottenham's Darren Bent.
Johnson has killed off Everton's hopes of selling him to Wigan or Sunderland for £10million by making it clear that he will only leave for a London club.
With long-term suitors West Ham no longer interested following Dean Ashton's agreement to a new five-year contract and the return from injuries of Kieron Dyer and Craig Bellamy, Johnson has indicated he would be happy to join Fulham.
A £5m Fulham bid has been rebuffed but a new offer is expected this week.
