I dont think anyone would deny we've not been playing well recently and whilst the important thing against Pompey was to win no matter what I think we really need to produce a convincing performance against Burnley. 3 points will take us to 34 points and will let the squad focus on pushing up the table but if we lose or just hand in another disjointed performance i think we'll spend the rest of the season worrying about getting the points required to keep us from being dragged into a relegation slog. There are reasons why we've not played well recently but Burnley offers us a chance to show we can still produce. Hoping Shorey shows why he was a good capture and O'kaka and Zamora start and get a couple of goal. This might yet be a memorable season, would anyone really have turned down 10th and still in the FA cup and Europe at the start of the season?

Aside from your terrible grammar and punctuation i think your point is incorrect. No we havent been playing well recently but there are certainly reasons for that. One of which is injuries but to suggest we should have bought more players int he window is foolish. We dont know what moves were made behind closed doors and it is clear Hodgson did attempt to aquire cover upfront for zamora and at right back. There arent many good players available in the transfer window just fat donkeys like beattie who will try and hold clubs to ransom. Who would you have bought supposing we had six million to spend? Secondly our run of form is not due to injuries alone but also a result of the games weve played, defeats away against good opposistion and a home defeat to a side pushing for fourth place dont equal disaster, though i agree it was disappointing. Having got the points against portsmouth and kept a clean sheet against bolton i think it is important for us to play well against burnley hence my thread. We happen to have an excellent chance of getting to a quarterfinal int he FA cup and a good draw might well see us progress further. Europe does look difficult but anything can happen in a cup. With injuries coming back into the team and shorey and o'kaka i think we'll pick up soon but even if we finish thirteenth and get to a quarterfinal those of us who remember the days pre-AF will consider this a good year.

Oh and as for Kamara im sure he'll look good in scotland were he gets more time and space but in the premieship, despite some outstanding moments, he never looked capable of being consistently good enough. Also hodgson didnt know johnson would be out for the season till after the window had closed.

you aint got a clue have you. were rubbish at the moment and hodgson should have bought some cover in january and now hes whining about injuries burnly will probly win whys kamara gone when jonsons injured??? weve been stupid and itll get shown this month and all this chat bout cups is trash an all cos even if we beat county well probly get knocked out in the next round and we defntly wont beat shakter and will probly get hammerd at theres place weather we have any decent players or not fit not that we have many decent players anyway

cheer up there mate, your right that Burnley will be looking to build on their last result so its important we start off strong and try and keep them quite for the first twenty minutes. If its 0-0 half an hour in we'll go on to win, the most important thing is not to let them start fast out of the blocks and get some confidence.

posted by WeWonItOnce (Guest) - Monday 08th February 2010, 2:36 PM

it looked like Burnley put in a decent performance on the weekend but i think Hodgson will be expecting more from the team than we've seen recently, i think what he said recently in the press and what he's been saying behind closed doors might be a little different. Either way i think if we start with o'kaka and zamora up front and our wide men put some decent balls in we'll bag a couple of goals. My main worry will be how we'll battle Burnley in the centre, need Murphy to play well, he's looked tired recently but we still need him to turn up for this one. I'd say 3-1 to Fulham but when do the whites ever let us have a relaxed final ten minutes?

as long as we get the 3 points ill be happy, burnley have only won once away from home so im staying positive. Hoping Duff plays well and tries to add a bit more variety to his play which i think has been lacking. COYW

I thought they were bad against Blackburn and Aston Villa, but they really hit rock bottom against Pompey. Kelly, Baird, Murphy, Okaka, Duff: hopeless! Thank goodness they couldn't score. We didn't deserve to win and it took a lucky, offside goal to clinch the points. If the commentators are correct and 36 points is going to be the safety line we are very lucky because we MIGHT just scrape those 6 points before the end of the season.
Replies
I agree todays game will be tough fred, im not going bottled at the cost of the train, but we beat them 3-1 last year and with the win over portsmouth we need to go there believing we can get the points.

Chance of wembley yes timmy, wanting to face CFC in the final, not me i only do that in my drems where i hit the winner from 35 yards out. If we could get to a semi against a team we can beat and then face an easy final id love it. Agree with most of your analyss but i think Shorey will really improve our performances as we've obviously missed having a proper LB and i hope o'kaka will show his worth once he's bedded in. Hoping zamora gets back amongst the goals against Bolton

3 months out from the end of the 2007/08 premiership season I made a $50 bet with my Wigan supporter friend that Fulham would survive and escape relegation. The team had been in relegation for 2 months or something and I made the bet purely out of faith and bleak hope we would escape. I still remember sitting head in hands at half time against man city, not over the bet but the realisation that we were relegated, who would have thought we would come back and win and go on to survive.

My point is, in tough times we'll pull together and grind out wins at home and hopefully results away. You gotta remember we played extremely well on Boxing day against spurs and were unlucky only to get a point, we then travelled to Stamford Bridges and were undone by an extremely unlucky own goal, but you know, losing at stamford bridges is generally considered unforgivable...

Moving on to a mid-week game away at Stoke City, another fortrese where even top teams are beaten and despite a poor first half performance and display of defending we almost managed to get a result (no penalty for Huth's HB). By this time the team are not only physically fatigued given they have played 2 games a week for 3 months, but also lacking confidence.

They travel to Accrington Stanley, didnt play particularly well on a ground that didnt favour our passing game, but got the result. We then travel AGAIN to Blackburn where a corner isnt cleared and samba thumps in the opener, before a dynamic Dempsey is desperately unlucky not to win goal of the month and equalise. He then gets injured and Blackburn find a sealer.

This defeat was the worst in my opinion as Dempsey who looked the most dangerous on the day got a long-term injury, this added to Zamora's injury severely hurt our attacking threat, which heading into yet another away game against spurs isn't ideal. We lose that and we're fully sapped of confidence so that even the prospect of a home game doesn't lift us enough to beat Villa who had what we don't, a consistent striker capable of scoring 12 or so league goals a year (yes I know zamora) Agbonlahor's class was the difference, which wasn't there for us.

We are now completely flat, we've lost half a dozen starting players, our top scorer over the last 3 years (Dempsey), as well as both our full backs and with Zamora still getting his touch back a win was all we wanted.

Injuries have killed us badly, fixture build up has killed us leading to both fatigue and injuries, but the players endeavor in most of the games during our poor run should not be questioned, we played 4 top 7 teams in our 6 games winless run, 3 away.

We should pick up more points against bottom half teams in the coming weeks and ease the pressure and raise the confidence of the team so that we don't only confirm a 9-12 table position but also so we push on in the FA Cup and who knows the Europa League.

Anyways, I don't think the team deserves half of what has been said, we're not a big squad and we don't have everton's depth who during a similar time could comtinue to push on, but the team has been unlucky and given a few more wins we'll hopefully be talking about a possible face off with Chelsea at Wembley.

Thanks 4 reading this far :)

You are both correct. Pompey play much better than some of the other teams, the off field distractions are costing them dearly. And yes, we are better placed than most. My original point was that their performances have just been getting worse and worse since before the Blackburn game and IN MY OPINION they were woeful against Portsmouth. It also seems AJ and John Pantsil are out for the season. Let's see how they go tonight against Bolton although even elsewhere on this site the expectations are low :
"Bolton are a tough proposition particularly at home where they have lost just once in their last 6 Premiership games. Fulham on the other hand are a pushover in away games having gained just 1 point in their last 6 away games. They have managed one Premiership win away from home this season, which was against lowly Portsmouth on the first day of the season. The Cottagers won 3-1 at Bolton last season but that was the only Premiership win in the last 6 visits. It is hard to see Fulham getting anything out of this game particularly in light of the horrendous injury list".

actually having watched pompey play both live and on tv a think its a bit harsh to label them the worst side in the league, certainly they have the least poiunts but hteyve handed in some good performances many of which far exceed Hull, Wolves or Boltons. Obviously the final test is points tally and that is what i think your missing, we won, 3 points, onto 30 points already, some good games to get stuck into and the prospect of reaching higher up. Our recent bad run has been a combination of heads going down after defeats n tough away games, a truck load of injuries, and key players looking tired from the amount of games we've played thus far.
"im not worried about relegation i've had plenty of grim times as an ffc fan to stress about possible troubles" Well said Fortress, Fred if you rember the bad times like when there were moves to merge us with QPR surely you dont have the time to be bleak at us being tenth. Improvement needed for this to be another great season but plenty of reson to believe it still can be a very good one

i dont think anyone here's suggested that fulham played well against portsmoutgh just that we werent as atrocious as you suggest. Yes Pompey had chances and we were lucky but i can think of plenty of games where the shoes been on the other foot. Given our recent run what was important was not the performance but the result. Our run of defeats included good teams and five were away. You state 'before we scraped a lucky win against the worst side in the league by a distance on Wednesday, we had been caught cold by two teams at home as well' I believe im correct in stating that our last two home league games have been against Villa and spurs both of whom are looking to finish in a champs league place and have better squads than ours by some distance. In fact our last two league defeats at home our Villa and Arsenal and given we have beaten ManU and Liverpool at the cottage this season i think we have reason to look at the postitive. I wont argue abpout how long you've supported fulham, if you say you've been a fan since the depressing days of old ill take it at face value, but surely you recognise how well we're doing and that we have every reason to believe we can press on up the table despite our injuries. Yes Boltons a tough place to go and itll be a scrap but if the team builds on this win we'll have a good chance. I think wewonitonce point was that we should be thinking positivly not negativly. We are tenth, still in the FA cup and still in Europe, as for a relegation scrap yea it COULD happen but so COULD us reaching Wemberly. Personally given some of the dross int he league and with this win under our belts im not worried about relegation i've had plenty of grim times as an ffc fan to stress about possible troubles

To O'Hodgsons-nephew. I have been watching Fulham longer that you have been on this planet. In the first half only Shorey, Schwartzer, Hughes and Hangeland showed any class or determination. Everyone else, including your favourite Duff, was inept giving the ball away in evey part of the pitch. Okaka was straight into a new team so I don't think you can blame him too much but the rest were inept however you look at it, through rose-coloured glasses or not. If they were all so good why were the crowd getting into them? Until they tired and we secured our offside lucky goal, who looked the most likely team to score/win? And try to be honest, not just stupid and abusive.

"We catch Bolton sleeping we could get 6 points from the rest of this month" you are absolutely correct we COULD, but our away form is woeful, and before we scraped a lucky win against the worst side in the league by a distance on Wednesday, we had been caught cold by two teams at home as well. We COULD win all our remaining games and qualify for the Champions League, but on the evidence of the previous 6 games I think we might struggle. We desperately need the likes of Dempsey, Pantsil, Etuhu and even Gera back toute suite.

Yea i rate Rieser, be nice to see him get a run in the team. Also fred what are you on we might be lucky to scrape 6points from the rest of the season? We catch Bolton sleeping we could get 6 points from the rest of this month

I like Riiser too, i think Hodgson might consider him a little lightweight for the prem at the moment and that introducing him gradually will lead to him becoming a very good player in the future.
Elm seems to have potential and i think he'll be getting more playing time from now till the end of the season as he now seems to be our backup for Zamora
Duff played well in the second half and has to be considered a very good signing by Hodgson, i admit at first i was dubious about buying him as he was so often injured for newcastle but im very glad to have been proved wrong
posted by fortressfulham - Thursday 04th February 2010, 3:24 PM

Duff was once again an inspiration in an otherwise team who's perfomance lacked ambition,Pompey certainly had a greater desire to win,I am confused at Roy Hodgson's reluctance to include Helge Riise in the starting line up,his presence in the Europa games have ensured our continued participation in this competition he was also a great inspiration to the team when he came on as a sub against Aston Villa,I would also like to see more of David Elm

Baird did look good at right-back, it might actually be his best performance in that posistion so far. Duff played well last night, as did greening, though Zamora was looking good and will hopefully continue the form he was showing befor his injury when he gets back to full fitness. Given we had two players making their debuts and have had plenty of injuries to disrupt the squad should we really have expected a breathtaking performance?

well said weoneitonce...i thought duff was probably our best player last night..made the goal and was a constant threat to pompy..i also dont think baird deserves to be singled out for criticism either..he did look a bit jaded but he has performed really well in place of etuhu..also thought he tightened up the back line when he replaced kelly at right back

Okaka made his debut and looked useful, no excusing his miss but once he's bedded into the team i think he'll be a good player.

Shorey also made his debut and was rather good given how little he's trained with the players around him

Duff made the goal we scored and given the lack of movement in the centre of the pitch pompey must have had an easier time closing off our flank men than they should have.

Baird needs to be rested, this run of defeats has led to him putting in weaker and weaker performances. Morale seems an important aspect of his character and i think he'd come back stronger if we rotated him out of midfield for a spell. Also he isnt a midfielder, as far as im aware he played CB for Saints and has been consistently played out of posistion by us

Murphy is getting older and that has to be realised and a replacement found. Our exploits in Europe and the Cup has meant Murphy has played more than i would have liked, recently he hasnt looked as dynamic on the ball and struggles to make the impact he has before. If we could rest him then im sure we would but who can take his place at the moment

I agree Kelly doesnt seem good enough to hold down a regular place in our starting line up but he is a relativly inexpensive reserve and if paintsil had only missed a couple of games i think he'd have been fine but he has been pretty poor, though against Spurs he wasplayed as a left-back, which to mind is foolish

We definitly need to put in better performances but if we can build on this result there's no reason we cant turn things round. Optimism would be nice, we're in the top half of the table, still in europe and have an excellent chance of progressing in the FA cup

It's official, our charmed run with lower league teams continue as we have Notts County in the 5th round, still yet to face someone from the Premier League or Championship.

Having said that Notts did win at Wigan and can do the same thing against us, and the last thing we need is a replay and having to go to their place.

Although i am very happy with the signings hodson has made im rather bemused that he has let kamara go and look set to replace him with james beattie and now dat we couldnt agree personal terms he doesn't wish to replace him. We have johnson and dempsey both currently out with injury and im sorry to all nevland supporters but he is slow weak always caught offside and in all fairness utterly useless so yet again we are stuck with two strikers and to get out of the slump we are in this just isnt good enough
Replies
i'm not that fussed by Kamara going, he had some great moments for us but i dont think he was ever good enough. We've replaced Kam in the squad with okaka so the reason we went for Beattie was to give backup for Zamora, a reasonable move even if i dislike him. Completly agree with Nevland, decent squad player but not good enough to start reguarly in the premiership, have to wonder why we didnt try and but moses. He wanted to stay in london, was only 2.5 million, and is probably at the level of nevland already.
In all honesty i dont think well be talking about a slump in a couple of weeks if we pickup 3 points against pompey, things could get ugly if we dont though. Delighted by our signings overall though

A very good loan for us i think. I rated him at Reading and ne's played well for Forest during his loan for them so all in all pretty delighted, plus i hear we're buying a young German from Liverpool who is a highly rated left-back and had been tipped as having the potential to break into the liverpool first team in the future.

Losing 5 games in a row is pretty poor, but they were all against teams now in the top 12 in the table, and we were missing over 50% of our best team. So I do hope we are not going to get too panicky a reaction. Having said that, I think we badly need a left back as quality full backs, going forward and defending, is a crucial part of the way we set ourselves up.
Replies
if we pick up 3 points against pompey things will calm down again but ill be worrying if we lose. We clearly lack depth to the team, i dont have any problem with Kelly, he's a decent reserve right-back, but why we dont have a backup left-back is bizarre. We should look to do some business in the market and bring in a good left0back and have Konch as a reserve. In fairness to Murphy he is playing week in week out and given his age we really need to find a replacement so we can rotate murphy and keep him fresh for when we really need him. Also Murphy looks particuarly light away from home and theres no coincidence this poor run of form has come after a string of away games. With some injuries coming back and a few points on the board we'll be climbing back up the table as there are plenty of worse teams than ours
posted by fortressfulham (Guest) - Monday 01st February 2010, 9:26 AM

Against top teams in the top 12? Well that's ok then. There are only 7 others you idiot! That is typical of what's happening on the pitch, an unrealistic reliance on poor players in ALL parts of the pitch. Baird is reverting to type and dragging Murphy down with him, who BTW, has been awful for the last 5 games. Duff, is all huff and puff with no substance. Please don't go blaming Kelly who was drafted in the left back place, everyone knows his left peg is only for standing on. Nevland is about to be offered a new contract when he should be offered the door. It is a sad state of affairs when Gera comes on and looks like our best player..
Yes we are missing Dempsey, Johnson(perhaps although I'm not convinced)Davies, Pantsil and Etuhu but we are supposed to have a squad and what we have is a first team and a bunch of no hopers. It just shows how lucky we were last year with having a settled side and few injurys. It is starting to look like another relegation scrap this year as we are starting to drop points all over the place. This is when Woy gets to earn his bonus again..

Stanley don't get shirty

January 29, 2010

WHEN Premiership star Erik Nevland offered to swap shirts with Stanley player Phil Edwards, the Fulham frontman had to leave the pitch bare chested.

It is normal for lower league clubs to make a dash to get the big name shirts after FA Cup matches such as Accrington's clash with Fulham at the weekend.

However, with Stanley's cash troubles, they may have got Fulham's tops - but the Cottagers weren't getting theirs.

Whereas the multi-millionaires of Craven Cottage are used to a new strip for every game, cash-strapped Stanley provide one shirt per man, per season. And that left Norwegian Nevland braving the elements after Edwards had the shirt off his back as a memento of his big day.

Edwards really wanted the top of his hero, former Everton striker Andy Johnson but, due to injury, Johnson didn't play.

So the next best thing was striker Nevland who was born in Stavanger, near the Arctic Circle, so at least he would have been used to the cold.

"He asked me if I wanted his shirt before the end and I said yes and then he came and gave it me," said Edwards.

Stanley's chief executive Rob Heys said: "I think the players understand that we haven't got money to throw away so, although we didn't tell them not to swap shirts, they understand the situation."

Stanley keeper Dean Bouzanis did swap his with his fellow Aussie Mark Schwarzer, the Fulham stopper, and Heys joked: "We do have a number of goalkeeper jersies so he is lucky but we will be docking his wages accordingly!"

And Norwegian winger Bjorn Helge Riise whipped off his shirt on the final whistle and generously donated it to a young Accrington fan who was collecting the flags.

Stanley substitute Billy Kee also grabbed a Fulham shirt but didn't give away his in return.

He said: "I got Aaron Hughes' shirt as I played with him for Ireland but I didn't give him mine as I don't want to pay out £30!"

News just broke that crystal palace have gone into administration and victor moses has been forbidden to play against newcastle tonight by the administrators. His agent has also come out sayin that he will now be able to leave on a a cut price deal.

This is a fantastic young talent who could prove to be a magnificent signing if we go in for him would prove to be excellent cover for dempsey while he is out really hope we go after him as could possibly sign him for roughly 3 million which would be a great piece of business

I suppose that the money is just too good.

It would be nice to see us holding on to young talent but in the real world an offer for 7m is just too good.

Best of luck Chris

Where'd you get that news from Kev? Are we talking a loan till end of the season for macheda or swap deal?
Looks like smallings sold but we get to keep him till the end of the season. Dont mind too much as long as we spend the money well and improve the squad.

I agree with you tot we need more out of this deal than 7 million. Have to wait to see the final deal but if we sell smalling we lose our most convincing reserve CB which makes are cover there alot weaker. Hopefully Arsenal will make an offer and we can drive the price up. Definitly need to get another left back Kallio has been poor every time ive seen him play
posted by fortressfulham (Guest) - Tuesday 26th January 2010, 1:35 PM

Yes 7 million pound is good money but this is not the only thing we should be looking at here if we are going to seel chris which looks inevitable now it should not be a structured deal as is the norm with transfers it should be a 7 million pound up front payment with future incentives and should also include the 6 month loan signing of fabio as cover for konchesky because quite frankly kallio is utterly useless at left back as was made evident against accrington and should also include a loan signing or permanent transfer of one of their strikers either macheda or owen will let you decide who.

I think the story is from the Daily Mail, haven't heard anymore about it but that not really surprisin as Fulham don't seem to put that much info out on injuries which is a bit annoying.

Be great if we can get him back for the Spurs clash as i dont see us winning that game without him or dempsey

I really do hope hodson does get this guy on loan and then extends it by a further year in the summer this will be a excellent signing he is young hunry and thirsty for success you can see in his performance against us in the europa league that he will chase down everything perfect guy to come in to replace zamora while he is injured.he is quick strong powerful with a good eye for goal.with a coach like roy hodgson to learn under he could be fantastic as hodsong has managed for inter milan as well as good experience of the english game so he knows exactly what it takes to make the transition.come on roy get this guy in

Today Okaka has scored a magnificent goal in his last game for AS Roma. A brilliant back-heel shot that surprised the GK. He might be a good player, afterall..

ive got to be honest i dont know too much about this lad but i was impressed with what hodgson said about it, something along the lines of we're interested but only if it benefits the club as theres no point agreeing to a deal which just helps the player and parent club but not ourselves. I'm still hoping we get in a top notch forward and possibly boost our defence. hopefully the end of the window we'll see us more active but to be honest as long noone makes a move for hangeland ill be relatively happy

The problem appears to be that he is not hungry for success, he is hungry for a big pay packet. So I don't think we should walk way, which is what Hodgson implied in his press conference.Zamora and Kamara will be back soon, and having seen him play for Roma against us, he is not as good as either of them (and certainly scores less goals). We cannot afford and should not pay huge wages for someone who will be on the bench.

"Sky Sports News understands that Fulham have reached agreement with Roma over striker Stefano Okaka.

The Cottagers look to have held off interest from several Serie A clubs to agree terms for the highly-rated striker.

Okaka is set to sign a six-month loan deal with an option to make the move permanent.

The 20-year-old is a graduate of the Roma youth system - but despite making his first-team debut in 2005, he has never been able to become a first-team regular.

He spent time on loan at Modena in 2008 and Brescia last year, and now looks set to for a move to Fulham.

Okaka and his agent are set to fly into England on Tuesday to complete the move."

Sky Sports

With the option to buy, this may prove a very good signing.

I heard the Okoka loan was a done deal. I think Fulham needs one more striker, a central defender and a left back. Maybe Senderos on the cheap, and Gareth Bale who would also be pretty cheap. I don't see why there are rumours of Fulham getting another winger, there is no need. AJ sucks and a quality repalcement striker is definitely needed as well as someone to cover for Zamora. Pavulachenko is available and he is pretty good.

yea gudjohnson would be a good addition, dont know about carlton cole, he's a good club striker but if we can afford his transfer so can half a dozen others and more importantly there are clubs who can offer a much better wage.

What about Gudjonson? He is still pretty good and has loads of premiership expierience. Blackburn are said to be offering 2 million, surely Fulham can afford that.
posted by caliyank (Guest) - Friday 08th January 2010, 7:34 PM

Depending on the prices and West Ham's willingness to let him go, I was thinking Carlton Cole. Similar play to Zamora, natural scorer, gives us more option with big strikers and allows for AJ to earn his spot or be used as an impact sub, which could work well.
posted by TIMMY4FFC (Guest) - Friday 08th January 2010, 3:45 AM

got to agree about the absence of people on the message board, its barely worth checking.

However, ive always rated johnson and still do. bear in mind that he's been out for a while and it might take a while for him to pick up. give him a bit of time to get back into form and then lets judge him

with zamora out for a bit we definitly need to see an improvement.

id still like to see us buy another forward but who can we get for the money we have?

I tend to agree, AJ only scored 7 league goals last season, given his price tag I expect 10 or more. He isn't much of a presence due to his size, but he has under-achieved at his time at Fulham and should not be a certain starter anymore.

Gera was pretty disappointing in his first year and I still think at times when played on the wing this season he's been average, but in recent months as a 2nd striker he has played superbly. He is definately a better Attacking Midfielder/2nd striker than he is a wingman and given how we've played without AJ in the last 3 months we shouldnt change anything unless AJ has earnt his spot.

Cheers and all the best for your season.

I think you'll find they're all decent players. Anderson is a left back who may not be quite up to Watts standard but is an honest lad who will work hard.

I haven't seen much of Uwezu or Saunders but I think you'll find both have decent touch on the ball. The loan deal suggests they may still be in our long term plans so I hope they do well for you.

Will certainly be keeping an eye out on your scores from now on.

Here's one for you: Zamora is being touted as a replacement for Heskey in the England line-up. Rafa is rumoured to be trying to re-sign Heskey in Jan. What about Rafa buying Bobby Zamaora instead? Personally I think Bobby Z is playing better than I have ever seen Heskey play, but what would the Fulham faithful have to say about the sale at say, 8million? Would you back the sale or beg hime to stay and out of the 6.5m we paid for BZ and John Pantsil, who accounts for the majority of it? It was suggested that we bought BZ and got JP thrown in but both have been terrific signings...

Is this one of the best Fulham Teams EVER? Highest ever top flight position, last 32 of the Europa League. I think so. For sure the best team I have ever seen play in my 15 years as a Fulham Fan. I will ask my old man his thoughts on this, being a Fulham Fan since 1966.
Replies
In reply to Irish Sam - in 1966 I had been a Fulham supporter (following Father and Uncles) for some 30 years. Unfortunately I was born in West Ham's backyard and so I wasn't a 100% attender until I was demobbed from the Navy at the end of WW2.From then onwards I was a season ticket holder until my wife decided she was going home to Cornwall and taking the kids and i could come if I wanted to in 1969. Since then I have only seen Fulham Live when they were playing either Plymouth or Exeter. I think the current team are on a par with Fulham in the days of Bobby Robson , Bedford Jezzard and Johnny Haynes. They may even be better

We'll draw any of the teams who finished top in their group (we could get Roma again!) or one of the 4 teams with the best 3rd place ranking from the champions league (Juventus, Unirea Urziceni (we would love to play them!), Marseille and Wolfsburg).

So we won't play Liverpool or Everton but from the possibilities we'll be more than happy to take Unirea Urziceni, SV Salzburg (Yes I know they have won all 5 games but surely if we can knock off the top Swiss side then we can knock off the top Austrian side) or Hapoel Tel-Aviv if they can finish top in their group, otherwise we'll be stuck with a big team and a tough task to make it.

However I do take heart what Middlesbrough did a few seasons ago and we could do or come close to matching what they achieved (made the final)

Bobby has really shown a lot of class over the last few games, and no one can argue with the amount of goals he has put away over these games or the determination and effort he puts in week in week out. Plus the assists and chances he has created for us has earned us a lot of points this season. So well done Bobby.
Saying that...the rest of the season he has probably wasted more chances at goal than anyone in the league. He gets into so many good positions but fluffs up every oppoutunity.
I am not one of the members of the crowd that boo him but i am not a big fan of him. I am not going to turn from a Bobby hater to a lover, but I will say he has been fantastic for us the last few games.

Here is a review:-

Review: Official Fulham 2010 Calendar

Only 13 shopping days to Christmas so what do you buy the mad White in the family who has everything Fulham?

Buzz this week is a 2010 calendar with a difference. Each picture can be personalised so the name of your brother, sister or mum appears as if by magic on shirts, the cottage score board, matchday programme. The pictures are great quality and you do the editing online, you then get the real calendar posted out 2 days later for around 15 quid.

www.premiersportsgifts.com/fulhamfc/

By just typing a name into the webpage you can see exactly what the pictures will look like, these include great shots of bobby and aj, with your name above, and no 7 shirt with your name on it, a hammy end banner, etc etc

Can't find it on the official club store yet but the company says this is an official product. When I got my calendar in the post, all looked professional and top notch, and a doddle to buy online. If you can't face the crowds this christmas then this is a total winner.

These stats I got from espn soccernet's gamecast.
Fulham 13 shots (2 on target) compared to Birmingham 3 (2)
7-0 corners to us
65% posession to us.
End results, us lose strikers with egg on their face and grumpy fans.

We should not be losing to these sorts of teams!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Replies
What are you on we should not be losing to these sorts of teams? Birmingham are exactly the kind of team we always lose to. I dont think we had a great deal of amazing chances against Birmingham, yes we had seven corners bossed the stats but given the weather conditions, a shocking amount of rain, is a surprise that fulhams game, which relys on accurate passing, failed towin out against a birmingham side not particuarly looking to play football but simply to put out a resolute performance.
Birmingham deserved the points because we couldnt unlock them and given that we're missing Johnson, Kamara, our best passer Murphy, and Nevland was out with Flu, is that a huge surprise?

I think the whole french football federation should be fined. The decision not only cost our team a place in the world cup it set the whole country back. In these hard economic times, world cups bring hope to a nation.

Totally agree - what a shocker.

There must be post match powers that FIFA can use to schedule a rematch or to cancel goals.

I've seen Victor Moses play a few times for Crystal Palace and he looks like a player with real quality and potential. He can play upfront or wide on the left and given Palace's poor financial position at the moment i really think he is worth taking a gamble on. anyone else have an opinion on him?

I saw Victor Moses play a couple of years ago when he first burst onto the scene, looked destined for the top, but haven't heard much of him in the last year or so.

Could be worth a gamble if the price is not massive

can it be really true that we are after a brazilian keeper rated at 3 million?? i am sure we are well covered in that position how about a striker

it depends how good he is, if he is world class 3 million is a bargain as schwarzer is getting on and cant have many top flight seasons left in him. Looking at securing worldclass potential now could well be a sensible move for the future, afterall we dont have the best depth at GK

Across the board...ALL big games, be it Premiership, Europa,or Champions league, definately the World Cup.... It's time to bring in the video ref. EIGHT SECONDS!!!!! Maybe 20 seconds if different camera angles are used.. Players arguing the point with the referee..if the rubbish we are seeing can be called refereeing, can take over a minute easily !!!!!
Its ACTUALLY SICKENING !! to see dives,fouls,penalties,sending-offs... the list goes on...being over or under punished. do these ref's actually take a course??
The standard, speed, finesse and quality of our beloved game has improved immesurably in the last decade or so...why then hasnt the refereeing??
Perhaps "THE HAND OF GOD" is the way to go...???
I live in Australia..lucky me.. but my mates wonder why I love a game so much that is so tainted by rubbish...all down to bad ref's.
It WILL come.But when????

Brilliant, but a little girl, what a *ucking wanker...10 goals per season for dives???? Not on.!!! Glad he left the Prem. How often do quality players like Schwartzer,(Lampard,Terry OK POMS),Cahill etc etc roll around on the ground as if bitten by an effin snake for 2 minutes after a tap on the ankle...they dont !!!! Real men.Real players.Real game. We subsequently see the replays, and those calibre of players just get up, limp a bit maybe, then get on with the game. Done. No wonder I moved over here!!(Aussies have more grunt and will power pound for pound in most sports...how else could a country of under 20 million come 4th in the olympics??)
Bring on the video ref and lets see not only how many players embarrass themselves, but how many ref's pick-up their own standards whilst under the spotlight of camera footage and scrutiny.

Spot on, some of the reffing has been disgraceful.

However it has to be said that the sport is littered with theatrics and players piss poor attempts at winning frees, not to meant half of which are apparently little girls who can't take a nudge without falling over or whinging.

As an Aussie myself, I'm a sports fan with the main focus on AFL, but I'm also a made Fulham fan and have commented on here a few bit, but the one thing that really pisses me off is grown men whinging about getting a slight push, falling over under the lightest touch.

In the AFL we have 17, 18, 19 year olds taking hits from players much bigger than half the players in the PL and nothing short of tough as nails approach is expected, as the sport demands full committment dispite age. AFL player dont get paid anywhere near what footballers get, yet they show far far more committment.

1989 AFL Grand Final Hawthorn legend 'Dipper' played the whole game with a punctured lung, 2008 grand final Luke Hodge also of Hawthorn went into the grand final with broken ribs and was award best on ground in their premiership win....thats what I come to see, not fuckn pansies rolling around on the ground crying over a foul.

Point is football is a great game and I love to watch it but god in recent game Fulham has had players sent off that are down right laughable, as well as the players needing to drink some concrete and harden the fuck up!

Paintsil was as good as always, its hard not to love him when he works so hard, but i think it made a mistake in the box during the first half which allowed Voronin to complete miscue a header - In fairness though watching the replays he was torn between going forward to pressurise another scouser or staying with voronin, he made the wrong choice but luckily it wasnt torres.
Great result hopefully we can carry some of the momentum into midweek

Just as we did with Perm and Sofia, the FSF is giving you wonderful folk our own guide to Rome. In fact, there's two, really, seeing as we have a guide to AS Roma, but also produced a one-off for the Champions League Final there last year, too. Two for the price of none - bargain.

http://www.fsf.org.uk/ground-guide/international-clubs/as-roma/

http://www.fsf.org.uk/rome-09/index.php

Not all the stuff on the Champions League main page will be relevant, but there's some great info there on the city itself (getting around, sights/history, eating and drinking...) that's well worth a look.

If anyone's got any questions about the guides, or the city itself, drop us a line by email and I'll do what I can to find out whatever's vexing you. Can't say fairer than that.

The same old problem, when will we ever learn. We try to defend a lead and boot the ball up field every time, its in our half, just to create another wave of attack. It was bound to happen that they would score. how many times have we lost points in the latter part of a game this way. WAKE UP HODGESON

To be fair both the West Ham game and Roma game we were down to 10 for the last part of the game and a crap deflection goal for the hammers to win. Roma player just found a little space and hammered it in.

We need to play with pace in Rome, italian league is slow and attacking with pace will unsettle Roma, we can win there if we go out and have a red hot go, if we sit back we got no chance.

However we are still suffering bad, bad travel sickness. Will the boys take their confidence with them or leave it at Craven Cottage?

No, your eyes don't deceive you, this actually happened. Forgive us for blowing our own trumpets, but it's not as if the police are going to do it for us on this occasion
Last week saw an almost unprecedented apology from one of the country's top policemen to a group of football supporters. Ian Hopkins, Assistant Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police (GMP), attended a Fans Forum to personally apologise for the treatment of fans by his officers.
For more on this, see the full story: http://www.fsf.org.uk/news/police-say-sorry-to-fans.php

The Football Supporters Federation stands up for fans across the country, and it's good to see that our work is beginning to pay off. We campaigned successfully against the misuse of Section 27 legislation last season, we've been working with Sunderland fans in an ongoing investigation into police brutality by Northumbria Police this season, as well as helping fans in individual cases week-in, week-out.

The FSF is there for when the shit hits the fan, but we're far more than that - find out more about getting involved and join for free (and get yourself a couple of freebies) at www.fsf.org.uk/join.php

A good team performance tonigt and one of our easiest premership wins in years.

A special mention for 3 players..

Chris Baird - vilified as a right back, suddenly turned into a makalele like midfielder- did the simple things well, pressed the ball and got his tackles in.

Damian Duff - had his full back on toast, seems to have found an extra yard of pace - a strong contender for mom

Bobby Zamora - 2 in 8 for BZ now, great goal and a fantastic assist. Have we found our 1st choice front 2?
Replies
Great win, Hull came for a point and left empty handed, just as it should be. We've got more points from the same amount of games as this time last year, after a tougher draw this year, lets hope Europe in mid-week doesn't take too much out of the lads so they can make it three years running taking all three points in manchester.
posted by TIMMY4FFC - Tuesday 20th October 2009, 11:06 AM

delighted with the performance last night but Hull were terrible and i dont think its being harsh on our team to say we could have seen more than the two goals we did.
Very pleased with Zamora, any goal for him is always welcome but its nice to see him so alert, his assist is typical of the performance he so often gives for the team, truly selfless. He'll never be a top class striker but im glad he didnt leave for hull in the summer, if we can land a quality forward in january and have zamora as a hard working squad player ill be delighted

Fulham's slow start to the season has led to speculation that Roy Hodgson's contract will not be extended when it is up for renewal at the end of the season.

Hodgson confirmed he has not held any formal discussions with the club's hierarchy about a new deal but is confident Fulham are going in the right direction under his stewardship.

What up with that, why would we want to lose him. He has lifted us from relegation battlers to genuine middle of the table team and our slow start has been more about fixture pile-ups and the difficulty of the teams we've played.

I wouldn't let him go on the back of this start, no way
Replies
definitly not, the board should definitly draw up a new contract for him and make it clear when discussions will start. All that said Al Fayed might well be looking at what happened with Hodgson at Blackburn, uefa cup qualifiers then relegated the next year, and ensuring that there is no sense of deja vu.

What kind of reception do you lot think Bullard will get if we makes an appearence against us? Personally i feel nothing for him, i have no problem with him leaving for a big contract given his age but the manner in which he did was disrepectful. That said i remember how important he was in keeping us up so i dont feel any dislike for him more sadness that he decided to act in the manner he did when he left
Replies
yea i can understand that reaction completly, i dont think ill be abusing him but i certainly wont be welcoming him back. That could all change with one action though, if he acts like a tosser during the game that would be too much for me to take.
What do you reckon he'll do if he scores? celebrate or act with a bit of class?
posted by fortressfulham - Friday 16th October 2009, 9:24 AM

Footballers need to understand a bit of loyalty. Fulham looked after Bullard and paid him big wages and for his expensive treatment whilst he was badly injured. We then get kicked in the teeth by him moving to a club with less prospects for a bit more money. That is why I will give him a reception that makes clear my feelings.

ok so Heskey looks like he might have to leave villa in january, if he does so we might well be one of the teams in for him as he is the right type of player for our system upfront and is considerable improvement on zamora who for all his work rate is at best dodgy when it comes to taking chances in the air. I reckon we'll probably miss out if Heskey does decide to leave unless there is an absence of interest on the part of a number of other clubs

thats a massive coincidence for it to pop up a day later, i think if we could land him for 3.5 then we'd be doing well, especially when you consider how high the transfer values for forwards are at the moment. Only problem for us might be matching his wages? i imagine he's getting a tidy sum for villa at the moment.

Really good performance today, especially by the players we all love to hate, Gera and Baird, but we need a striker badly - Eddie Johnson was awful when he came on, and although Kamara was decent, he didn't look like a goal.
Replies
Kamara did superbly with the lack of support he had. I don't know why but our first halves are terrible, but we have played well in second halves, we should have to concede to lift the intensity. As for striker, most deffinately a striker is needed. Sunderland have two superb strikers that are carrying the team, which is something we need. Our squad is perfect how it is, we just need that one marquee striker who can win us games.

Bring back the old message board format!

Sometimes you need to know when to cut your losses. The idea to try and revamp the website was good, as the home page needed an upgrade. But it is obvious that changes made to the messageboard have not gone down well.

I read in the daily mail that this was Fulhams main fan website, but im afraid its just not making the grade anymore.

Something needs to be done!

possibly a live chatroom? fantasy football?

But start by bringing back the old format.

Thanks for your feedback Dan - we welcome any comments that will help us to make the site better for its users.

The move to the "topic" based messageboard was always supposed to be a quick fix for problems with the original Fulhamweb messageboard (very similar to this format). At the time this had an equally negative welcome to that of the recent changes.

The current format is our latest offering, it allows us to make changes to the layout and functionality a lot quicker (as it is our own rather that a 3rd parties). Hopefully this will result in a better messageboard for everyone.

Development is already under way for a "result predictor" type game for the website - and we have many other ideas to make the site more appealing to a wider audience.

As mention lots recently here - we welcome any feedback, so please keep it coming. Hopefully discussions will then soon turn back to the mighty whites!

I am off to check some other sites out. I've been using the official site recently, but I'd prefer an Indie one with a communtiy feel! Unfortunately the new format on this one has a high level of visual congestion. I am sure the changes were well intentioned, but the outcome isn't floating my boat and the set up looks even worse. It actually makes the last set up look quite good comparitively speaking. Sometimes the simple way is the better way. I'll pop back from time to time to see if things have changed, but until they do adieu!

There are plenty of other Fulham messageboards out there (The offical site, TFI to name just two). It is a shame that you want to look elsewhere, but if there is no debate here then that is understandable.

When you say "other places that work properly" - What specific problems are you having?

On one hand we are six games into the season with only 6 points on the board, we have lost 4 times and we are out of the Carling cup. On the other hand we are in the group stages of the newly formed Europa cup and have twice shown that there is life out side the first XI - most notably a great performance against Arsenal where we were unlucky to lose.

Has the beginning of the 09/10 season shown signs of a hang over from our great season last year? Can our squad take on the challenges of European football? or have we simply been unlucky and our luck is about to change?

Leave your views below and read what others think.

We are going to struggle a little with last season being dream, but have complete faith in Roy. He will field the right teams at the right times and as long as they work like in the Arsenal game and not the Wolves game we will stay up and finish around the middle and hopefully at least advance to the knockout stage in Europa.

O.K. 6 games and 4 losses. However take into account who those 6 games were against. Outside of Portsmouth and Wolves we have played 4 of last years top 6 teams. Other than Wolves when we were rubbish we have looked o.k. We were absolutely robbed on Saturday against Arsenal and deserved at least a draw! October promises to be a difficult month as well. However November should be a month when we should be looking at picking up 10 points or more. We will be o.k. Think that 7th this season is out of our hands with the money that City and Spurs have spent. However I would be surprised if we do not finish in the top 10.

Not many posts yet on the new messageboard - now either this is because no one wants to use it, or there is a technical fault meaning that users can't post.

Please let us know either way. If you can, post a reply to this message. If you can't they please send us an email via the contact form to let us know any issues you are having.

All in all we were unlucky to lose, but its the same old story - Chances, but unable to convert.

We should have wrapped this game up in the first half.

I feel after our last few 2nd string matches i must retract my previous coments about inadequet defensive cover, although i still think we should have reinforced our defensive line with a new central defender i believe baird and smalling have performed admirably.

On a different note, has anyone else had problems posting msg's or even logging in?
