Fulham boss Chris Coleman has warned Claus Jensen that he is playing for a new contract at Craven Cottage.

The talented Danish schemer is in the final season of a three-year contract, and given that a string of injuries have curtailed his involvement at the West London outfit, it remains to be seen if he is offered fresh terms.

Coleman, who brought the 29-year-old to the club from Charlton in 2004, remains a firm admirer of the former Bolton favourite but also concedes he is unsure about what decision he will arrive at.

The Welsh tactician has reassured his player that he still has time to earn a new deal, of the opinion that Jensen could prove to be an integral squad member, if he ever realises his potential.

"We've not seen the best of Claus. When we signed him we had great hopes for him, I was always a big admirer of his and I still am," Coleman said.

"Claus was going to be integral to our formation and to the way we wanted to play.

"But he was unlucky because he played a few games and made a few goals, only to get injured. He's been battling injury ever since.

"He's a quality player. He's saying he's now ready to play the full 90 minutes. When he gets his chance, and that will come sooner or later, it's up to him to prove it.

"His contract is up this season and it depends how well he does on what happens next. That's our point of view but he may have a different idea.

"We've had one or two discussions with Claus about his future.

"I talked to him at the end of last season and told him we were signing Jimmy Bullard, who was going to be number one. That put Claus out of the starting XI. He was fine with that.

"But I also told him if his performances were fantastic then that can change. He knew where we were coming from and it's been a bit frustrating for him because he hasn't had a look in yet."
